High School Sports Roundup for Saturday, Oct. 28


The Metuchen field hockey team defeated South Plainfield 1-0 to win the GMC Tournament title for the first time since 2006 on Oct. 19, 2017.

J.P. Stevens 3, Edison 3 (2OT): Kirsten Borja finished with one goal and one assist for J.P. Stevens (6-12-2). Allison Gosling and Katelyn Clemens also scored. Mikhayla Sabo and Andrea Maris each had one assist. Sarah Zimmer made seven saves. For Edison (14-5-1), Samantha Moxie recorded a hat trick. Alexa Sapsa, Taylor Hearne and Gabby Moreno each had one assist. Briana Reyes made 14 saves. 


St. Joseph (Met.) 6, Perth Amboy 1: Brendan Watts scored twice for St. Joseph (10-9). Thomas Erickson finished with one goal and three assists. Thomas Erickson, Matthew Nunziata and Logan Olsen also scored. Tyler Costeira, Chris Nguyen and Matthew Pinho each added assists. Ryan McSwieney made five saves. For Perth Amboy (1-16), Joel Santos scored.
