Twitter can’t believe what Lionel Messi did to assist Luis Suarez V Eibar

Ahead of their stern test against Chelsea in the Champions League next week, Barcelona travelled to Eibar in La Liga on Saturday.

The Blaugrana came away with a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba to extend their lead to 10 points at the top of the table with Atletico Madrid not in action until they face Atheltic Bilbao on Sunday.

With 28 goals and 12 assists in 36 games this season, it was a surprise to see the great Lionel Messi fail to get on the scoresheet on Saturday.

The Argentine wizard, 30, has been in excellent form once again this season, seemingly rising to the occasion more so than ever since Neymar departed for Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

While he did not score against Eibar, he certainly had a profound impact on the game.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was pulling strings left, right and centre at the Ipurua Municipal Stadium and some of Barca’s build-up play was almost unfair!

However, his through ball to send Luis Suarez through on goal to net the opener is something special – even for Messi.

Take a look at the vid below to see the extraordinary vision and execution for yourself:

Bearing in mind this is Messi we’re talking about, Twitter was still astounded at the Barca No. 10’s assist:

Next week, Messi will lock horns with Chelsea and their Belgian superstar Eden Hazard for a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

While Hazard has been mooted as a successor to Messi and Ronaldo for Real Madrid too, he was full of praise for the former ahead of their duel.

“You know, they have a guy who is not from this world,” Hazard said, according to FourFourTwo.

Eibar v Barcelona - La Liga

“He’s different, a superclass. But this is not about one player, it is about the whole team.

He added, “It’s a beautiful match.

“This season we are not the same as last season, of course, and they are very good but in the end it is a cup tie and you never know what happens.”

“That’s why we love football. I’m pretty sure we can beat them if we play together. We’ll see.”
